As a self-trained abstract artist, I did not always view myself as an artist, although I created for years.
Everyone used to ask if I had a website, and after I began Pieces of My Soul Creations, I began the journey to photograph the art pieces to utilize on a website. I wanted to stage the art pieces as a part of an art exhibit and approached a local theatre to ask if I could use their venue to stage the exhibit. I would install the art one day, get them photographed, and remove them the next day. After the installation of thirty-eight pieces, the manager asked if they could keep my works up!
That turned into a six-month solo exhibit, and I even sold a couple of pieces! God has given each of us gifts, talents, and abilities that we tend to downplay if they are not our career choice. Am I Picasso? No. Will I make millions of dollars? I have learned to “never say never,” but have I and can I inspire people with my art? Absolutely! Below are links to the exhibits I have been a part of since then, and I look forward to participating in more!
Please take a moment to see what inspired each of my works selected for the exhibits below. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at tchannel@piecesofmysoulcreations.com.
This photograph was taken the evening of Thursday, April 4, 2019, the day my family held the Celebration of Life Service for my son, Raheem Channel's life (7.31.81 – 3.11.19).
The photograph, a depiction of a line taken from the words I wrote to say that day, "My Son Ain’t Stop Shining, his light reflected within my eye... forever my light" …
A mixed media art piece, titled "Just Us | Our Piece of Mind," created after an unedited lyrical conversation between my son, Raheem "RocBarz" Channel and I after he was pulled over by the police. It depicts the injustices throughout history as well as the feelings of frustration and hopelessness of a black mother and her 36-year-old son in America.
An an acrylic abstract titled The Storm Within was selected to participate in the State of Delaware Employee Exhibition sponsored by
the National Arts Program® where over 200 participants entered. A total of 28 awards were given in five categories and four Special Awards categories. The Storm Within was among the Special Awards received for Abstract Art.
An acrylic abstract titled "Hope," took center stage as I entered the Biggs Art Museum celebrating Black History Month Exhibiting local black artist. I was honored, humbled, and proud to be a part of this Exhibition.
I asked the manager of then the Schwartz Theatre located in Dover, Delaware, if I could used their venue to stage a art exhibit to photograph my works and was offered the opportunity to keep the exhibit up from October 2017 to February 2018.
